Welcome to www.numsoc.net

"What is the difference between a Numismatic Society and a Coin Club?"

Good question.

"Well, a numismatic society is a sort of club for people who are interested in coins, isn't it?"

Absolutely right. And that is exactly what the OWL is all about.

Our Members are interested in almost everything to do with coins, tokens, medallions and money in general. We range from beginners to former beginners, we span the years from Ancient to Modern, we don't believe that there is any "proper" way to collect, and we do believe that our hobby should be enjoyable.

We hope that you might feel the same way too. If you do, please look around our site. There is information about our Club, our Meetings, how to find us, Numismatic Notes, and some longer Papers which our Members have put together. And if what you see interests you, why not come along to our next meeting? Visitors are always welcome, and sometimes turn into new Members!

COVID-19 Coronavirus

The current ‘roadmap’ from the Government outlines a schedule by which essential and non-essential parts of the economy will be released from lockdown. Until definitive information is available, meetings of the Ormskirk & West Lancashire Numismatic Society remain suspended. The safety and well-being of our members and the public is of paramount importance. Please check back here from time to time for any update.

Newsletters

The restrictions in place to deal with the COVID pandemic have meant that rather different means have had to be adopted to maintain our Society links. In the absence of face-to-face meetings, our Secretary and members have collectively put pen to paper to produce a monthly Newsletter, featuring both news and feature articles. Our Newsletter is available on line as a .pdf document. If you would like to read, or download, our works:

What’s New?

From time to time, a paper or a presentation comes to our Society which we think might be of general interest. We are pleased to be able to add these contributions to our website. Please read, and if you have any comments, or would like to add anything, get in touch by clicking our Feedback link at the left.

New this month

It is with great sadness that we report the death of one of our founder members. Dr John Dawson has been a dedicated and stalwart supporter of our Society since its inception in 1970. A tribute to John appears on the front page of our Newsletter No.12. Click HERE to open the Newsletter
